If anyone knows me, everyone knows that graffiti is one of my first loves when it comes to art. By definition, graffiti is a form of visual communication that is usually showcased in public places, such as street art, but in my world, graffiti is the visual storyteller of my life. I have been drawing graffiti since I was about 7 years old, and I fell in love with it just from seeing it in my day-to-day life growing up in NYC and just being inspired by all the graffiti I saw everywhere. The top 4 things that inspired me about graffiti when I first fell in love with it were just the uniquness, the colors, how creative it was by the different forms of the letters, and also just the message you can show others and the world with your own twitst and style of graffiti.
Since I have been drawing graffiti all my life and just my relationship with graffiti, it has been very empowering and just has pushed me to think outside of the box constantly within my creative mind. Also, I have learned that graffiti has kept my artistic side of myself different in so many ways. For a while, I was very scared to tell others that I draw graffiti because, when you look within the graffiti culture, there are not too many people of color, let alone women, who are into graffiti, so I would feel very weird talking about my love for graffiti and telling others that I draw graffiti. After the age of 20 years, which means it took me most of my life and artistic journey to get comfortable telling others about my love for graffiti, One thing that pushed me to get more comfortable talking about graffiti was just going by a very popular quote that states, “Don’t worry about what others say; as long as you are happy with it, it is all that matters in the end.” Since then, I have been able to talk about my love for graffiti and share my different pieces with my friends and cousins, which makes me happy because they do encourage me to keep going with my art since they enjoy the pieces that I have shown them so far! One of my biggest dreams that I have been manifesting since I was a kid is to have one of my graffiti pieces in a museum back at home in Queens, NY, for the people back at home to see and view. Until then, I will keep on perfecting my craft within my graffiti journey and never give up on creating as much as I can.
